The Hardrock Rooster of Rose-Nose Mound

Narrated by a mysterious figure named Druber, this is the story of a morning when things appear to be going very wrong. The blame seems to belong to a rooster who didn’t do what he was supposed to do. But is it his fault? He does have a good reason. And, just maybe . . . what finally happens is better than anyone could have imagined. In the spirit of Wind in the Willows and Alice in Wonderland, it is a story for children as well as gifted adults.

About the Author

Donald Anderson was born in Rochester, NY, and grew up feeling a novel was a feast for eyes and spirit. To his young mind, the longer it was, the better. During his academic career at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY, he indulged this passion in the classroom. He wrote scholarly pieces on fiction writers such as Washington Irving, Sarah Orne Jewett, Edith Wharton, Thomas Wolfe, and John Updike. Published in 2016, “Currencies of August” was his first novel. As playwright, actor, and director, he was equally drawn to dramatic literature, producing scholarship on writers for the stage such as Joseph Jefferson, David Belasco, Noel Coward, and Sam Shepard. “Shadowed Cocktails,” his book-length study of playwright Philip Barry, was published in 2010. “The Hardrock Rooster of Rose-Nose Mound” (2017) was a return to what he calls his very early “front porch” days of neighborhood story-telling. Intended for readers 10 and up, it was done in collaboration with illustrator Michelle Crowe and was a happy admission that, in fact, longer isn’t always better
